Leftists Who Declare That Christ Told Them the Litmus Test Issues Were Good (Yes, Really.)

Christians who fail one or more of The Litmus Tests of Serious Christianity need to take a step back and re-evaluate what it means to be a Christian.

Non-Christians who pass all the Litmus Tests should seriously consider becoming Christians. If they choose not to, they remain non-Christians, and the passed Litmus Tests carry little, if any, meaningful spiritual benefit.

Virtually all leftists inevitably fail one or more of the Litmus Tests, which is expected and, unsurprisingly, largely irrelevant.

But what about leftists who claim that Jesus personally informed them He actually endorses one (or more) of the Litmus Test issues as a force for Good?

I don't think this qualifies as a Litmus Test in its own right, but it certainly qualifies as the mother-of-all-pseudo-spiritual fails.

How is one to respond to such tripe?

I mean, that truly is epic, Mount Everest-level nonsense, that is.

The absurdity. It burns.

I think the problem is often "Residual Unresolved Leftism" - in other words, people repudiate Leftism in theory (or regard themselves as 'apolitical') - while retaining one or more Left assumptions.

This idea comes from Owen Barfield's "Residual Unresolved Positivism" - which is the same, applied to Positivism (aka materialism, reductionism, scientism).

We are all prone to these things, because we swim in a ocean of Leftist/ Positivist propaganda and (much worse...) assumptions; and have thousands of errors unconscious and taken for granted.

The thing is not that anyone ought to be or can be perfect - but that we need to be able to identify and acknowledge these RUL/ RUP errors when they are pointed out or emerge in practice - and repent them.

@ Bruce - I agree that everyone -- including me -- struggles with Residual Unresolved Positivism. I also believe that it is extremely difficult to completely dislodge all aspects of leftism within oneself, particularly since many or these aspects remain unconscious or undetectable.

But this is very different from a full-blown leftist (or leftist "Christian") declaring that he has received personal confirmation from above that leftism is good and that God actively endorses the aims and goals of one or more of the Litmus Tests.

Yes, it is very different - in terms of what is done about it. The difference between repenting a sin - simply by acknowledging it IS a sin (repentance does not require reform, or Heaven would be empty), and doubling-down on it.

I think this may, in practice, need to be something each discovers for himself, because when another person is involved, then in usually becomes a fight for domination or supremacy.

@ Bruce - Yes, you are right on all points there, particularly about other people being involved and how this only leads to quarrels, domination, and supremacy. It is also probably a fertile breeding ground for resentment, spite, etc.
