Sorath - Seems About Right, At Least in Essence

Curious to discover if there were any images of Sorath to be found online, I searched the term and came up with this illustration, which is posted on a site called Deviant Art.

Seems about right to me -- at least in terms of essence.

A striking picture - but too "cool" to be Sorathic - he's more of a Luciferic poseur.

If we consider that the Sorathic develops from and via the Ahrimanic; and that the archetypal Ahrimanic Man would be a bureaucrat - I think we would come up with something a lot less impressive.

A sadistic and spiteful hag of an over-promoted middle manager, perhaps (some real names and images spring to mind, unbidden).

Deviant Art is stocked with over-stylized fantasy images created by people who probably played a little too much Dungeons and Dragons when they were kids.

Ha! Sounds like the university administrator who terminated me from my part-time position when I had the audacity to question the ethics behind mandatory peck-testing at the institution.

I think that description would be a good temporal representation, but it's still too Ahrimanic in my mind. If the image captures anything, it is the destructive essence of Sorath, but I don't believe that essence would be as "visible" as it is in this depicition.

Attempting to visualize these sorts of things -- demons and non-embodied spirits -- is kind of an exercise in futility, but I agree with your notion that Sorath likely looks a lot less impressive.

I picture a spirit who epitomizes spiteful destructive nihilism. A fairly non-descript spirit with fidgety hands and an apparently stoic expression staring out at Creation with eyes as cold and nebulous as black holes.

I think there's a dark yet hot way of being, like a grinding hostility and frustration, that this image captures (like a Balrog).

But to my mind, the growing evil in the world could be best put something like "greed for deathliness". So maybe an image of a bloated, black spider, like Ungoliant. Although Ungoliant is a little less reprehensible, for example vampirically feeding on the *life* of the Trees of Valinor rather than seeking deathliness for herself.
