The Dreaded "Year in Review" Post

12/31/2020

I'm not a big fan of 'year in review' posts and have never published one, but writing a meaningful post on this last day of this most significant of years has proven to be beyond my powers.

Bearing this in mind, I offer instead my selection for "best" 2020 post, followed by the top five posts of the year in terms of views.

Thus, my choice for best 2020 post is:

An Idea Concerning God's Unresponsiveness

And in no particular order, the five most-viewed posts on my blog in 2020 were:

The Religion of Hatred

Listen All Y'All, It's a Sabotage

The Right Thing For The Wrong Reason

This Easter, Escaping Raskolnikov's Delirious Lenten Dreams Involves Coming Forth Like Lazarus

The Great Reset: The Prime Objective of the Successful Global Totalitarian Coup

Thanks to all who visited the blog this year - and special thanks to those who took the time to engage with the blog via comments.

See you in 2021.

Happy New Year, Francis. I don't comment often, but I really enjoy reading your writings, ever since I discovered you last year through Bruce's blog.

@ Islanti - Thanks very much. I appreciate the kind words and support. I recently learned that you live in Newfoundland. I spent a great deal of my life in Canada - Ontario, to be more exact - but I have a soft spot in my heart for Newfoundlanders, whom I have generally found to be the most generous, genuine, and interesting Canadians. This applies to native-Newfoundlanders and "transplants to the Rock" alike.

Indeed! Newfoundlanders definitely have a unique reputation throughout Canada, in my experience. I grew up here, spent roughly a decade in Alberta, but recently found myself back in Newfoundland again. Now having seen both sides, it's kind of like going back in time in many ways being here and I appreciate the little things now more than ever. Far from perfect, but definitely home.

Well, at least you didn’t title the post “Hindsight is 20/20.” That’s something, anyway.

Maybe the reason that we can't seem to.look ahead, is that the future is more widely divergent now than usual. Either there will be a genuine awakening-based revival and positive 'movement '. Or things will get worse in ways that are discontinuous with 2020. And maybe this means we can't extrapolate.

Outlook for humanity: bleak. Outlook for salvation: improved.
Thanks for the great posts this year Frank. You're a big reason I didn't completely lose my mind in 2020.

Before we slide too far into 2021, I'd like to say thank you too.

Regarding your post on God's apparent unresponsiveness, this seems to me a vital area of reflection, particularly in an age of despair, when people are going to be looking for direction they no longer feel they are receiving from institutional Christianity.

I would like to add that, in addition to your posts on the writings of Berdyaev and Dostoevsky, I appreciated your posts on paintings. I found I had a range of responses to the artworks - some left me unmoved, some were very affecting, and one left me dumbfounded - but I always found your commentary interesting.

@ James - Thanks for the kind words.

My greatest worry is that many Christians may transfer their disillusionment over churches onto Christianity itself. I regard this as a massive error. Yes, conventional forms of Christianity are cratering nearly everywhere, but this should serve as a call to cultivate a deeper, more intense form of Christianity rather than abandonment.

Your responses to the artworks I have featured on the blog pretty much mirrors my own! I'm far from being an expert when it comes to painting, but I do enjoy exploring and commenting on art in my own layman manner. It's good to hear others have enjoyed these posts as well.
