@ Luke - Indeed. Yet "saccharine" appears to work. And when it doesn't, they unleash the scare-the-wits-out-of-you kind, which has also been tremendously effective.

I guess your propaganda is more hopeful than ours over here in the states; here you get shamed into getting your magic juice and still get to sit 12 feet (yes 12) and double mask after "vaccination". Oh wait, triple mask. The beatings here will continue until morale improves.

@ Michelle - Oh yes, I forgot about the shaming kind. We've had plenty of that, too. Now that you mention it, I expect there will be some of that on tap here as well as they continue playing the pecked portion of the population against the unpecked portion.

In the US the drive to get people jabbed has turned into a full-spectrum propaganda campaign and societal mobilization the likes of which I did not even think possible outside of wartime. TV commercials, banners, promotions (get a free drink at participating restaurants with your vaccination card!); speeches, warnings, pleas from politicians and officials; an endless cacophony of local and national news stories; the deployment of mobile vaccine buses and vans; door-knocking campaigns; the busing of high school students to mass vaccination sites; the offering of no-appointment, walk-up jabs.

It is really astonishing how intense and pervasive this campaign has become, and getting more so by the week. Although I am following it with a kind of pathological fascination, it is simply impossible to avoid. I was at a pharmacy the other day and it attacked me over the loudspeakers: come get your free Moderna jab! No appointment necessary! At the same time, the question of the jab has become a serious point of contention within my own family. Is it not enough to quietly refuse the jab; you must answer questions, you must explain yourself. Repeatedly. Your observation that the pecked portion of the population is being played against the unpecked portion is certainly true here in the States.

What will be very interesting to observe is what sort of coercive measures will be rolled out in the weeks ahead as the supply of the jab starts to outstrip the demand (there was an 11 percent decrease in vaccinations nationwide last week). This was an entirely predictable situation – the surveys always made clear that a large minority of the population would be unwilling to get jabbed – so I expect that the measures coming down the tracks have been planned out well in advance. We are already seeing companies mandate the jab for new hires, which seems illegal to me. The media narrative is shifting to one of renewed anxiety as we are told that we are *so close* to the promised land of herd immunity and yet *so far* due to that sizeable, stubborn cohort that refuses to get jabbed. Something must be done about them or we risk slipping back into the endless pandemic nightmare. And we all agree that would be terrible (though for *whom* is not usually addressed).

They claim we have half of the population vaccinated here, but lockdown rules are actually increasing this week. Instead of masks going away, they are officially indefnite (no more emergency extensions required) and schools, restaurants, sports, etc. are again suspended.

So the propaganda is, of course, a lie.

I’m in Michigan. It is actually 6 million doses they claim, not actually half the population. I don’t believe the numbers, as the news is pushing scare very hard and huge dose surpluses not being used... who knows... even the actions are dishost.

Yes, this has been my experience as well.

Was it Aldous Huxley who said a big part of propaganda was convincing people that a part of humanity wasn't really human? I get the sense we might be in for some of that in the coming weeks/months.
