Until Morale Improves!

Apparently, the one year-plus of intermittent lockdowns here in Hungary - complete with social distancing, face masks, closures, curfews, and all the rest of it - have done nothing to slow or stop the slow of the birdemic.

If official sources are to be believed, Hungary is on the verge of a genuine health catastrophe. So, what does the Hungarian Medical Chamber's president suggest the country do in the face of such a disaster?

Implement even stricter lockdown measures, of course!

Why? Well, because nothing says "expert" like doubling - nay, quintupling down - on preventative measures that have continuously and persistently failed in every conceivable manner.

"Outside of grocery stores and pharmacies everything should be closed. Why should convenience stores remain open? All basic toiletries and cleaning supplies can be accessed at grocery stores. And people should plan their shopping ahead. It should not occur that I run to the store for some butter today and go again tomorrow for a kilo of bread. Grocery shopping should occur once a week.”

Da, tovarisch!

Of course, this pressured hysteria is in no way connected to the government's feverish campaign (pun intended) to peck the entire population before Easter . . . I mean, summer . . .  the Oscar awards ceremony .  .  . well, before I don't know when.

As far as I can tell, these latest tactics carry a very clear message:

The abuse will continue until pecking morale improves!

I had high hopes for Eastern European leadership, perhaps a genuine Christian leadership, but the birdemic has dashed those.

I think God is sending us a strong message about putting any faith in politics.

@ Andrew - Yes, I harbored some hope for Eastern Europe as well, and I explored that theme in the past a few times on this blog. Your overall point is 100% correct - there is no hope in politics. I'll go a step further and say there is no hope in any aspect of the System (of which the Eastern European leadership are an integral and integrated part).

It's not wrong to hope for a Christian leader. However, such leadership must be in the context of genuine spirituality. This reminds me of an interesting article about the rise of the monarchy in ancient Israel. God had always intended kings to be from the line of Judah. However, the people insisted on a king immediately "to be like everyone else". They wanted a good thing for the wrong reasons. Instead of waiting until God sent David, they were given Saul from the line of Benjamin. https://theorthodoxlife.wordpress.com/2013/11/02/the-long-awaited-king/

As someone who initially had high hopes for Trump, I now realize that many of the so called saviors are nothing more than Sauls rather than Davids. A lot of people sense there is something wrong w/ modernity but they are not willing to repent. I've been guilty of thinking we can vote the right person in or get a strongman to save everybody.

However, the people must be willing to follow a Christian leader. All forms of government, regardless of format, are by "consent of the governed". Poland, Hungary, & Russia have recently had more conservative governments. This does not necessarily lead to a more devout populace. Francis, forgive me if I'm mistaken, but isn't church attendance in Hungary around 15%? It doesn't seem like the people of Hungary are interested in God, regardless of what Orban says. I"m afraid a lot of these conservative governments are elected more b/c of their economic populism rather than a genuine desire to follow God.

A similar scenario occurred in my mother's home country of Spain. People turned to a stongman, Franco, to save them from communism. Franco restored Catholicism to Spain. However, the people's hearts were not changed leading to a collapse in religious observance after his death. A great leader can certainly inspire revival, but the people must genuinely desire it.

@ Lady Mermaid - I wouldn't equate church attendance with interest in God. Joe Biden apparently attends church all the time, but I would be hard-pressed to equate that with an interest in God. Having said that, Hungary is not much better than most places in Europe in terms of belief.

As much as I sympathize with the idea of Christian leadership, I don't think it is a viable way forward at the moment. Meaningful Christian leadership would require a shift in consciousness - a complete transformation about how we think about and understand the world and ourselves.

Without that, "Christian" leadership is little more than a label, as the example of Hungary and other Eastern European nations clearly shows. So in this, you are correct and your comparison to Franco and Spain is somewhat fitting.

I am feeling more and more sure that the primary spiritual impetus is now destructive. Nobody who genuinely wanted to run a long-term totalitarian dictatorship would be so relentless about destroying his own power and productivity - destroy his own capability to be a dictator. This is something new, and only possible in a world very advanced in corruption.

@ Bruce - Yes, I am increasingly inclined to think the same. Eastern Europe is now the epicenter of the birdemic. The other day, I read a report that revealed Hungary has lost over 2 trillion Hungarian forints - well over 2 billion euros - in revenue in the tourism/hospitality industry alone. The implications of this are staggering, especially when you consider that at least half of that lost revenue affects small business and family-run enterprises. And that's just the tourism/hospitality sector. One can only imagine the losses other industries have incurred in this past year.

This was pretty obvious with the advocacy of abortion coupled with the environmentalist pseudo-worldview.

The message of the abortionettes was that a child is an impediment to female emancipation and equality. Men, on the other hand, benefitted from this as an advance in consequence free sexual gratification (one billion slaughtered infants couldn't be reached for comment). Both could console themselves with the fact that neither was contributing to their carbon footprint, so they're actually helping the planet and making themselves feel good, you see.

I was trying a third paragraph about Nominalism, but I lost my train of thought. But obviously by denying Real categories and assigning relative standards to the value of things (an unborn human being has no rights until born) the potential for abuse is boundless. We've seen liberal transgress their own idols and edifices time and time again and cover up these transgressions through Nominalist wordplay. I think a new vista in this era of spiritual destruction is to give armed agents the ability to declare a victim as an unborn child and themselves as the "child's" "mother"--thus permitting extrajudicial killings.

You may think this is silly or impossible, but the entire Establishment world keeps trying to tell us that transwomen are real women.

I could not have summed it better myself. This is not some grand orchestrated plan; it is the frantic death spiral of a secular ruling class. Even a Brave New World dystopia must have some level of competence. These maniac lockdowns will lead to famine. One cannot simply turn off an industrial economy like a television program and pick up where one left off.

The true impact of the lockdowns is yet to be seen. However, there have been reports of food shortages in developing nations. It's been estimated that between 20 to 35% of all US dollars printed in America's history were printed in 2020. That's right, all of US history.

The system is setting itself on fire. The events of Epiphany Day were a warning shot. People tolerate much as long as they have access to food and a comfortable place to sleep. An economic collapse will leave people w/ nothing to lose. The ruling class has fallen into the self destruction described in Romans 1. God is allowing modern man to feel the full weight of his madness. Hopefully repentance will occur after reaching rock bottom.
