A human being is a created creator possessing an uncreated element.*

The uncreated element is freedom.

Within this freedom lies the genuine yearning to continue and add to God's Creation, thereby cultivating and enhancing divine life in ways not even God can envisage.

And that genuine yearning leads to the highest freedom a human being can know -- overcoming the determinism and objectification of the given world through love.

*I stumbled upon this sentence a few days ago and jotted it down in a notebook, but I can't recall the exact author or source. I have to learn to keep tighter notes!

I don't recognize the quote - although it could be interpreted as a summary of Mormon theology; if the uncreated element was seen not as freedom, but as being an original, eternal, agent being - whose capacity for greater freedom was then created by God, by making primordial beings into children of God.

@ Bruce - I am not nearly as well versed in Mormon theology as your are, but if the uncreated element is an original, eternal, agent being, then it makes sense that the being would possess some form of primordial freedom that God did not create. It also makes sense that God increased the capacity for freedom -- that is, enhanced the capacity of this primordial freedom -- when he "created" the being into Creation as his child. This all works for me.
